Saturday Studio Sounds
the word's on the street and it's on the news...

So, if you've been following me here at all, you'll know that I occasionally will include music in a post in some form or another.  Music is a constant background for me.  I can't carry a tune to save my life (other than in the car), and I don't play an instrument (I played violin in elementary school, it was a disaster).  I also don't dance (well, I am an awesome car dancer, of course - and not the Tawny Kitaen type!).  But I do love to listen.  Constantly.  And I'm quite eclectic in my taste too.  I'll listen to country.  Top 40.  Alternative.  Classic Rock.  Moody chic music.  Indie artists.  Show tunes.  Musicals.  Oldies.  Doo wop.  Classical.  New Wave.  Punk.  You get the idea.  (is there a genre I forgot?  I'm sure...)

I am also doing my best to ensure that the two kidlets grow up with an ear towards music in all it's wonderful varieties.  As is my husband.  One of the things I love is that my 5 year old daughter is that she is always singing (dancing, too).  And she'll listen intently to a song, over and over, until she knows it by heart.  In fact, she's so good with songs that she sang the first ever solo at her preschool graduation last year!  Nate, my 3 year old?  Well, he likes "Rock and Roll roll roll!"  (imagine him yelling it while air guitaring or drumming...)

I'm sure, at this point, you are saying "Okay, Hol, get to the point please."  And here's the point.  Since music is such a constant in my life, I'd like to try to do a weekly feature on what I play while I create.  Sometimes the music influences what I'm working on, sometimes not so much.  I will also, starting next week, try to post what it is I'm working on, so that you can judge for yourself it is indeed influencing my work in some way ;)

So, then, for this week, here's what I'm listening to.  A Lot. On Repeat.  ;)

This is Black Kids, with "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You."  I love it!  It's campy, fun, and different.  I admit, I first heard the song on my newest TV obsession - Glee.  As usually happens with Glee, if I hear a song I like but hadn't heard, I always try to find the original artist.  I was pleasantly surprised when I found these guys, and have since added them to my IPod ;)    How it's affecting my designs is yet to be determined, though...because I've been on a cleaning kick!  Maybe that's what it's done, then, caused me to move and get things cleaned!  Because the song indeed calls for movement of some kind ;)

Well, there's that then!  Please let me know how you like the idea of doing a Saturday Studio Sounds.  Would you be interested in participating??  Let me know that too!  Maybe I could McLinky something up for us ;)   And I'll leave you with a few questions - Do you listen to anything while you are creating?  If so, what?  Does it affect what you are working on in some way?

I usually alternate between music and tv while I'm creating. Most of the time there's music playing, but later in the afternoon some of my favorite sitcom reruns start coming on, so I switch over.
Having music on really does help me focus. If there's just silence, my mind tends to wander and I don't get anything done.
I MIGHT be interested in a studio sat thing, but can't promise that I would be able to participate EVERY Saturday as my weekend schedules vary so drastically. It is an interesting idea though. I'll stay tuned!
