And then I Reached...

Do you remember way back when?  Where I said that I was going to adopt as my Word for 2011 the word "Reach" because I was becoming a little to comfortable where I was?  Well, following that, I kicked myself out of my complacency and started to reach for some lofty goals that I'd decided upon.  And am starting now to reap the benefits of having done so.  And I'm happy and excited about it, in a pretty big way!  I've already mentioned this on my personal Facebook, but excuse me while I crow a bit more.  As I said, I'm pretty excited.

And what am I so excited about?  Well, I've officially had a piece of mine published!  The September issue of Bead Trends includes my necklace "Forest Walk"....and I still can't believe it!  This is the first time I've ever seen my name in print for something creative that I've done!

I can't tell you how excited I was when I first got that email saying that Bead Trends wanted to use my necklace in their magazine!  I'm pretty surprised ya'll didn't hear me screeching where ever you might be :)  And then, keeping it a secret like I did?  Yeah, that never happens.  I can't keep a secret to save my life.  (although I am better about keeping secrets than my sisters...)   But I kept quiet, just because I wanted to!

"Forest Walk" features my favorite copper, along with some gorgeous ocean jasper, fancy jasper, oyster opal agate and handmade copper washer links.  It's finished with one of my handmade copper clasps.

That beautiful ocean jasper rectangle just called out to me when I first saw it!  And I'm still in love with those beautiful fancy jasper rounds and the oyster opal agate.  (The above shot was taken by me, and is not in the magazine....I'd done some adjustments to the clasp since I wasn't happy with the links!)

Here is how the piece showed in the magazine.  It can be found on pages 96 and 97.

I can't thank Bead Trends enough for publishing my necklace!  And to have it in such awesome company as the featured designer, lovely Miss Molly Alexander?  Talk about incredible!  (What I find even cooler is that Molly and I were partners in my first Bead Soup Blog Party!  A pretty cool piece of coincidence, if you ask me ;)  And I certainly can't forget being in the company of covergirl Shannon Chomanczuk, the inspirational Erin Prais-Hintz, the fun Diana Ptazynski and oh, so many other awesome designers....well, who could ask for more?  Certainly not me!  So, again, thank you so much, Bead Trends, for including my necklace...

And watch for some more of my pieces coming up in Bead Trends!  I've got one piece in the October issue, and another in January, 2012!

I'm certainly going to continue to Reach after this!
What are you reaching for?

Woohoo! That is so awesome! I have a deep fondness for Bead Trends as they gave me my start in being published. They are so warm and inviting and very accommodating. The first piece I ever had published was in their second issue and it was a pearl design that I made for a bride. It was due the same weekend that the wedding was, but they extended my deadline and I actually took it off the bride at the reception and lovingly sent it off. I love Bead Trends! I am so happy to be a part of this first of what will be many appearances with you!
Enjoy the day!

Hi Holly. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and allowing me to find yours!! Congrats to you for your beautiful necklace being featured in a magazine!!!!!! That is so awesome and must feel so surreal to you!!! "Reaching" has certainly paid off for you. Getting out of my own way is one of my personal goals that I've set recently. I believe "finding" you happened so that I could see what great potential there is for someone when they do this. : )

I also saw that you attended the Woodstock fair. Is that in Woodstock, NY? I live about an hour and a half from there and my family has a cabin in the Catskills. It's such a beautiful area of New York state. Take care and have a wonderful weekend!!
