focus on life
week 3

taking time for ourselves, huh?

something that many people, i suspect, don't really do.  for me, 15 or 20 minutes without interruption is spent well with a book, curled up on my bed.  i have my favorite authors, who doesn't?  and so i wanted some time to find those authors again.  and experience the special magic they bring.

mzb is one of my fave authors of all times.  her amazing book, The Mists of Avalon, was my first experience with her, and I've since spent many hours enchanted by her words.  i refresh myself with her tales quite often.

another way to bring myself back and take time for me is by playing with this Big Dog of mine.  seriously, this boy has captured a part of my heart and is returning it in a Big Way.  What can better than the unconditional love of a four footed, furry piece of goofiness and sweetness?

yes, we had a snow day this week.  wednesday, actually.  So not only did i play with Big Dog in the snow, but I also took time out to play in the snow with my babies.  who really aren't babies anymore!

seriously, building a snowkitty (cuz erin is obsessed with all things kitty) with my kiddos brought me back to my own childhood and playing in the snow with my sibs and friends....

and speaking of sibs, tonight I'll be spending time with my sister at our local honky tonk.  i can't wait!

what have you done for yourself lately?  and don't forget to check out what everyone else has been doing...

It was a treat hearing from a fellow MZB fan, as she was a fixture in my adolescence. I haven't actually read her Avalon and related works. I was a Darkover devotee. Bradley was such a amzing author, mentor and essayist. So sad she missed ushering in the 21st century by mere months.

You've encouraged me to hit the library, Holly, and make room in my life for an old friend!

What a perfect way to spend your time with the kiddos! I love your Big Dog too. I am such a dog lover and big dogs have so much more personality and connection to our feelings.

I read so much for my blog - which I love - I find that when I can pick a book NOT scheduled for review I enjoy that immensely.

The dog looks so very happy.

Reading is always a great way to take time for ourselves but I need hours to read a novel. I can't put it down if it's good!
Playing in the snow with the dog and kids just sounds like fun. I miss those days!

I love those stories! The pics were great, love the snow kitty and it's clear by the snow on his nose that big dog is playful, but the hat is my favorite, hope you had fun with your sister!

What great ways to recharge with family, pets, and a little two-step at the local honky-tonk with your sister!

No snow here. It's been a sad winter according to my daughter. Actually we haven't had a good snow for a long time. Enjoy it while you can.

I am intrigued by the book that recharges you. I will look for it. I have never read anything by her. I see you have a wide repertoire of ways to take time for yourself and recharge. All of them look like fun to mel

Like the picture of the bed with your favorite author's book on it and the quilt and memory pillow. Plus thanks for the recommendation of this author. Always looking for new authors to read.

A snow kitty! I love it! Very creative and cute kiddos you have there. What better way to relax than playing with them and your dog! I love that you are going to spend time with your sister. My sister is 3 hours away and I swear we never see each other unless we are passing through or it is a holiday. I need to rectify that with her and find time to get back in touch with her! Thanks for the inspiration. Enjoy the day. Erin

Where do I start. As I scrolled down your post, the first thing I noticed was the quilt on your bed. I wanted to crawl in it. I guess it is getting close to my bedtime, but I just adore a cozy quilt. Secondly, thanks for the book recommendation I haven't read this series and am ALWAYS looking for a new good book. You might have saved me from another dismal trip to the library. As well, I'm no fan of snow, but that kitty snowman has tickled the heck out of me. It's great that you consider spending time with your kids as some of your 'me-time', there are plenty of parents who do not. Now, I hope you had a blast at the honky tonk. ;)
